Bursa Malaysia Open Higher Extends Last Week Gains, KLCI Trade Near 1700 Mark.

Bursa Malaysia opens marginally higher today on continued buying interest in most index-linked counters.

FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI trade near 1700 mark, market breadth was positive, as advances outnumbered losers 181 to 87, while 178 counters were unchanged.

Among heavyweights, Maybank and CIMB up each trade at RM9.68 and RM5.70, respectively, Public Bank was flat at RM24.80, while TNB and Petronas Chemicals fell eight sen each to RM13.56 and RM8.61.

Sapura Energy rose to 29.5 sen, Bumi Armada declined to 22.5 sen and Barakah up trade at 9.5 sen.

Suiwah Corp Bhd’s share price up this morning after its major shareholder Suiwah Holdings Sdn Bhd intends to privatize the group by way of a selective capital reduction (SCR) and repayment exercise.

Can-One Bhd fell 3.6% on renewed concerns of its mandatory general offer (MGO) for the remaining 66.61% stake in Kian Joo. Can Factory Bhd it does not own. Can-One’s proposed MGO was first announced back in December.

Datasonic Group Bhd’s share price increased as much as 4.5 sen or 8.8% to 55.5 sen so far today after the ICT Company said yesterday the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) clarified that Data sonic is not an entity under the commission’s investigation.

Global Market

All US major indexes closed higher with Dow industrials closed at 24737.20, Major averages all climbed firmly into positive territory after ending Thursday’s trading mixed.

The Dow climbed 183.96 points or 0.8 percent to 24,737.20, the Nasdaq jumped 91.40 points or 1.3 percent to 7,164.86 and the S&P 500 advanced 22.43 points or 0.9 percent to 2,664.76.

European stocks also moved mostly higher on the day, although the U.K.’s FTSE 100 Index bucked the uptrend and edged down by 0.1 percent. The French CAC 40 Index and the German DAX Index shot up by 1.1 percent and 1.4 percent, respectively.
