Bursa Malaysia opens higher in trade today, with the key index gains on 

Benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI was 4 points up at 1,686.3 from Thursday’s close of 1,682.9. Market breadth remained positive, as advances continued to outnumber decliners 139 to 82, while 139 counters were unchanged, 1,532 untraded and 26 others suspended.

Among heavyweights, Maybank and Petronas Chemicals rose while Tenaga and IHH Healthcare were flat.

Public Bank, CIMB stock slide lower. Other active were Bumi Armada, Tatt Giap, while Sapura Energy and Hub line slide lower.

DRB-Hicom Bhd shares fell as much as 11 sen after the group said its indirect subsidiary Proton Automobiles (China) Ltd received a civil complaint from Goldstar Heavy Industrial Co Ltd.

Bumi Armada Bhd shares rose after CIMB Research said Bumi Armada’s difficult debt refinancing talks with banks are ongoing and that the probabilities of banks have come with resolution.

My EG Services Bhd (MyEG) shares inactive after the group said it had received the government’s nod for the renewal of its courier service license for a three-year period, which will allow the company to expand its e-fulfillment service.

Global Market

Early start of trading session market activity was lackluster but later stocks shoot up higher. The major indexes averages gave background after the spike but managed to remain firmly in positive territory.

The Dow advanced 162.94 points or 0.7 percent to 24,370.10, the Nasdaq rose 49.77 points or 0.7 percent to 7,084.46 and the S&P 500 climbed 19.86 points or 0.8 percent to 2,635.96.

A negative reaction to quarterly results from Morgan Stanley (MS) put pressure on the markets early in the session, which slid 4.4 percent.

The yield on 10-year Treasury note rose above 2.75 percent to its high of the day on the report. The 2-year yield also hit 2.57 percent before slipping back to 2.55 percent.
